Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is a skin hair system?

A skin hair system (also called a thin skin or poly system) uses a thin polyurethane base that looks like the scalp. Because the base is transparent and lays flat on the head, it creates a clean "hair growing from the scalp" effect. It can be attached using liquid adhesive or double-sided tape for flexible application. The smooth polyurethane surface also makes it easier to clean and maintain than lace or mono bases.
Skin hair systems are a great option for clients who want a natural-looking scalp and low maintenance.
Both skin and lace hair systems are widely used in men's hair replacement, but they serve different needs in the salon.

Skin (poly) hair systems
- Create a clean, scalp-like appearance
- Easy to clean and maintain due to the smooth surface
- Durable (except for 0.03mm ultra thin skin) and easy to cut to size
- But, less breathable (not ideal for clients who sweat heavily or live in hot climates)

- Highly breathable, allowing air and moisture to pass through
- Lightweight and comfortable for long time wear
- Allow for bleached knots, improving hairline realism
- But, more delicate and harder to clean, with lower durability over time

In general, skin bases work well for clients who prefer easier maintenance and a clean scalp look, while lace bases are better suited for those who prioritize breathability, comfort, and the most natural-looking hairline.
The lifespan of a skin hair system depends on several factors, including the base thickness, hair material, manufacturing quality, and how the system is used and maintained. Because of these variables, exact longevity can vary, but we can provide average estimates:
Base Thickness Typical Ventilation Method Approximate Lifespan
0.02–0.03 mm Usually V-looped 3–4 weeks
0.04–0.06 mm Usually V-looped 1–3 months
0.08–0.10 mm Often knotted with a V-looped front hairline 3–4 months
0.12–0.16 mm Knotted 3–6 months
0.12–0.16 mm Injected 2–3 months
In general, thicker bases are more durable, while proper cleaning and storage will help extend the life of any system. Our production process follows strict quality control standards, with quality checkpoints throughout the entire production cycle, and every unit undergoes a 100% inspection before shipping.
Both tape and glue can be used with most skin hair systems. However, we do not recommend tape for 0.02—0.03mm ultra-thin skin systems. The base is very delicate, and strong tape can make removal difficult and increase the risk of tearing the skin base.
For any adhesive, we recommend a 24-hour patch test first to make sure it is suitable for your customer's skin.
The best choice between tape and glue also depends on how your customers wear their hair systems and their daily activities. If you need help choosing the right adhesive or want to learn more about wholesale men's hair systems, feel free to contact us.
